Universal News January 8

Hello race fans,
Little late on the email for this weeks match, Friday kinda snuck up on me.
USPSA
Sunday the 10th
Registration: 0845
Walkthru: 0930
Fee: $20
6 Stages including a classifier
PRACTICE
Will be available after the match for $10. We will have some of the FL State Stages built and I’ll probably be working on more. You may not be on those stages. Otherwise, most of the pistol bays will be available for practicing.
3 GUN
Will be on for the 23rd of this month. Will have another email before that.
DPL
DPL is back!! Not on it’s normal day, we’ll be doing it the 23rd as well along with the 3 gun match. Will explain later but you may shoot both if you like. If you haven’t tried our Defensive Pistol League, it’s a great opportunity to try out your real gun with your real gear.
FL State USPSA Championship
Match is next weekend. We still have room in the match and I highly recommend you participate. It is our State Championship! A fun match and gives you the chance to test your skills against shooters from outside your normal club. Sign up available through Match Sign Up.
 
FLORIDA OPEN
Registration is open for this one as well. Our most famous match and the 17th production! Difficult match that will test all your skills for sure against many from around the world. This match is the 3rd weekend in February and you may register on Match Sign Up.
WORK PARTY
We are having a gathering tomorrow here to start building of the FL State Match. If anyone is bored and wants some free beer and pizza you are welcome to join us. We’ll start around 9 and finish probably at dark 30 or so.

Hello Shooters,
Quick one this week.
The Monster Match was awesome, thanks to all involved in making it a success.
USPSA 
This Sunday. 6 stages including a classifier. Little higher round count than usual. We are using 5 of the Monster Match stages culled down to 32 rounds plus a classifier.

Fee: $20
I won’t be there (out of town shooting a match), thanks to Duane and Andy for running the match for me.
3 GUN
Will be on this month. Will email the week prior. Also 3GN will be at our range the last week in February. A6MG will be the first weekend in April. Will be making the formal announcement probably next week.
Side promotions. The Custom Gun Classic and Factory Gun Classic are coming up fast. Punta Gorda and Clearwater respectively. Check them out on Match Sign Up. Great local(ish) matches to support. The crew of each puts on a great show. I’ll be at both shooting and working to support the sport as y’all do for me.

Hello Shooters,
SCATTERGUN CHALLENGE
Went about as awesome as I could have hoped. Thanks for all that came out to give it a go. Coffee and donuts to start, Subway and Yuengling to finish, it was a good day. And….we were done by 1:30, with awards done by 2:30. Can’t ask for more than that. Probably will look to make it a State Championship Shotgun match next year.
3 GUN
On for this Saturday. We’ll be a little shotgun heavy as we’ll be using some of the Scattergun Stages mixed with Pistol. A little light on Rifle this month. Will have some slugs…..re shooting the swinger stage from Scatter mixing in Rifle and Pistol on that stage. Reusing the flying clay extravaganza largely because I want to reshoot it!!. Rifle will be MGM’s out to 200 with LaRue Bonus Targets at 400.
100 bird, 10 slug, 100 pistol, 75 rifle will do you this month.

PRACTICE
No practice this month at 3 Gun. I have a family event I have to attend in Orlando and will have to leave a little early. On that note, scores may be delayed until Monday. I’ll see if someone can email them to me so I can post but no guarantees.
USPSA
On hold for a couple months as we have the US IPSC Nationals and USPSA Nationals coming up.
DPL
On hold for the same reasons. Looking at maybe hosting a DPL on Dec 19. It’s an off day but it’s the only day I have for the remainder of the year for DPL.
US IPSC Nationals
Still have plenty of room for shooters and could use a few staff as well. If interested please contact me. We are offering match fee, $350 cash, lunches, and a bitchin t-shirt.
MONSTER MATCH
Registration is open. It will be epic!!

Universal News 8/11/15

SCATTERGUN CHALLENGE
Stages will be finishing up on Friday and probably some on Saturday as well so I don’t have exact round counts but like I said in the flyer 200 bird and 20 slug should do the trick. We do have some slug available for sale in the pro shop if anyone needs it.

Registration will open at 7:30. You’ve already registered on Match Sign Up so it will be a quick process, just verifying your information is correct. Please plan to stay on your assigned squad. As you can tell on Match we are going to be full…only 10 or so spots open now. I don’t want to go over 10 per squad so we can keep the match moving. Walkthrough will start at 8:00 and we’ll go hot right after that.
USPSA Time Plus scoring just like we do for 3 gun. Clays are treated like a normal target also like our 3 gun matches. That means a miss is a miss. Marked as ‘Complete Miss’. They do not receive a ‘Not Engaged’ penalty like a regular target would whether you shoot at them or not. We are using some throwers. Flippers and traditional clay launchers. To keep the match flowing we are using the generally accepted 3 gun practice of ‘If the clay breaks on the launcher, as long as you send a round at it it will count as a hit’. We are not doing re-shoots for clays that break on the launcher. If you don’t shoot at it it will count as a miss.
We will have Publix or Subway sammiches along with some sodas for lunch. Keep shooting until I tell you to break.
I will have some Ying available for after the match but feel free to BYOB if you’d like. We’ll hand out plaques directly after the match. No classes but will do top 5 in the main divisions…..top 3 in Heavy (pump), plus categories.
USPSA
Most of you are on Marc’s email list also. But reminder there is a USPSA Classifier / SLOT match at our place on Saturday. If you’re in the neighborhood you should check it out!
3 GUN
Will be on this month on the 22nd. You’ll get another email prior to that for reminder.

USPSA Production Gun National Championship

Team USA was out in force for the USPSA Production Nationals at PASA Park in Barry, IL this past weekend. It was a huge field of competitors at over 350 including all the great names you’re aware of in the sport. 30 Grand Masters, 60 Masters. I was on the 2nd Super Squad, we were surveying around during a rain delay (this was PASA after all) and we discovered we had over 170 National or World Titles amongst the shooters on our squad. And that was the 2nd Super Squad!! To say the competition was tough would be an understatement!

We all finished in the top 40 with Manny at 36, Frank 20th, Sal 16th and me at 14th. Manny and Sal shooting their CZ’s, Frank with his Tanfo as usual and I was shooting my TTI G34.

Universal News June 2016

Howdy Shooters,

 

Hope everyone is enjoying their summer or the start of it anyway. Summer is somewhat lax around here as we start to prep for the busy fall and and all the Nationals that will be here. I’m certainly enjoying the slower pace for a month or so.

 

We have the ProAm in July. USA doesn’t run that match, you can get more info at proamshooting.com. I’m pretty sure they still have room to compete, not sure about their staffing levels. The US IPSC Nationals is here in September. We are running that match and info can be found on our website. Then the USPSA Open/L-10/Limited Nationals will be here in October. Again, we aren’t running that one. You’ll have to turn to USPSA for questions and info. With all these matches I hope to help to get information out as best as possible whether I’m in charge of the match or not.

DPL

 

This match is getting better and better. We will be keeping to the same format for now. 5 stages and 50 rounds ish. Share the word on this and lets get some more folks out! I normally shoot my little carry gun as you know but this week I’ll be shooting in the IDPA Division. As you know, it is not an IDPA match but we do have a division set aside for those that would like to practice with that gear. As I’m shooting a big IDPA match out of state this month I’m going to get some practice in. Also remember you can shoot .22’s! As well as .22 carbine or pistol caliber carbine. We ran into an issue last month with activating targets via a popper and .22 not taking them over. I won’t be activating them with steel anymore. We will use stomp pads or rope pulls or harsh language or something! 🙂 I certainly want to encourage everyone to shoot and the use of .22’s as they are super fun! So bring ’em on out.

Brief again this week. I know everyone is busy but I haven’t had many free seconds the past few weeks. Good problem to have!
3 Gun is ON for this Saturday

No Practice this weekend. I am out of town. Huge thanks to Duane and Andy for taking on the match for me. If it weren’t for them you wouldn’t have a match on these weekends. I really appreciate them stepping up and making the matches happen. Please tell them thanks!! And go easy on them.
There have also been many folks verbally and through email asking me to add them to this email list and I haven’t made time to make it happen. So if you have friends that are interested please share this email so they know there is a match going on. I’ll get them added at my earliest convenience.
Other quick updates
USPSA for May is on the fence. I’ll be out of town, will see if someone can run the match. That is Mothers Day FYI. Will update.
DPL will be on the 16th of May and is a go.
3 Gun is the 23rd and will be a go as well! I’ll be there!!! Yay!

USPSA Nationals to come to USA

We are happy to announce that the 2015 AND 2016 U.S. Practical Shooting Assn. (USPSA) Limited / Open L-10 National Championships will be held at Universal Shooting Academy. I have been in talks with the USPSA President for a while now and the contract was officially finalized and signed today.

There will be much more information to come in the near future and I assure the information flow will be similar to a fire hydrant from my social media outlets. USPSA is fully in charge of producing the match but running matches is our business and I will do my best to keep the masses up to date to ensure your Nationals experience is top notch.
