Universal News March 2015

Howdy Shooters,
It’s been a busy year so far, hard to believe March is almost over. We have the Area 6 in a couple weeks then a small break from major matches at our place.
3 GUN
Its ON for this Saturday the 28th. I will be out of town properly using cover at the IDPA State Championship. Duane and Andy have graciously offered to run the match for me. We will be working on the stages this week but the normal 100 rifle, 100 pistol, 50 bird, 5 slug will get you through.

Walkthrough: 9:30
Fee: $20
I will be gone for the April match also, I’ll see if I can talk them into running that one as well. I will be here and the match is on for sure in May and June.
USPSA
No USPSA in April due to the Area 6 Pistol Championship at our place. I will be out of town for the May match. Will let you know if that’s a go or not. It’s also Mothers Day FYI. June and July should be a go!
DPL
Next DPL match will be April 18. I know that is a 3rd Saturday but A6 Pistol is in the way so it’s either the 18th or not at all. I want to keep the momentum going from the great first match so the 18th it is! May it will be on the 3rd Saturday as well due to my travel schedule. June and July it will be on the 2nd Saturday.

USIPSC Nationals
Will be the second week in September. Registration will be opened by next week.
As you’ve probably heard there is a lot going on with Road Ends Practical Shooters at our range as well. Marc Weir has a bunch of exciting plans for more shooting! You should be on his email list as well and you can follow Road Ends’ website. RoadEndsPracticalShooters.com to stay up to date.

 

USADPL

Got the stages finalized for the first USADPL. 63 max rounds required with 7 courses of fire. Most are short 5-7 rounders with one 14 and one 17 round stage. Remember though it’s 1 center hit OR 2 hits anywhere on target. For example the gun I’m using has a 6 round mag plus one in the chamber and I have one spare 6 round mag. So I’m only going in with 13 rounds max. So for the 17 round stage I will have to take a few targets with only one shot….and make it count.

On that stage for example there are 8 paper targets and 1 steel. So even with a 5 shot revolver and one reload you would have enough rounds.

USADPL
Our first go at Universal Shooting Academy Defensive Pistol League will be this Saturday the 7th. You can find more about it on the website. Normal 8:30 sign up and 9:30 walkthrough. If you are new to competition and can be there at 8:15 or so I’ll have a short tutorial of what is going to happen. I also plan to have a squad of the “newer shooters” which I’ll run with and help you along. I’m looking at 6-7 stages of fire. Round count will be under 100 for sure and probably closer to 50. Bring whatever you want to shoot, we’ll find a place for you. I’ve already had a couple questions that don’t fit in my divisions….things I didn’t think about. But we’ll make it work together. I’m excited for the event. I’ll be running the new G42 with IWB Blade Tech holster and one spare mag.

Fee: FREE! It’s like crack….first hit is on me.
USPSA
Sunday is our normal USPSA day. This month is a double whammy, a classifier match and our Central Florida Section Slot Series match. We will have 5 maybe 6 classifiers plus at least one field course….probably from the State Match. Follow us on social media to find out what classifiers will be shot. (I don’t know yet so don’t ask, it’s only Wednesday after all!)
IF YOU ARE ENTERING THE SLOT SERIES and you are coming in under my club you need to inform me in writing. (email is fine) Just “yo dude, I’m in the slot series” will do.
When: Sunday the 8th
Registration: 8:30
Walkthrough: 9:30
Fee: $25
PRACTICE
Practice will be available after the USPSA match on Sunday. There will NOT BE practice on Saturday after the USADPL match. We may implement that in the future but not this one. Most areas will be open but not the FL Open stages which will be set up.
Fee: $10
Time: End of match until 5pm or I run out of Yuengling whichever comes first.
FLORIDA OPEN
The following weekend. Match is almost full but there is still some room. Guns for all class winners with participation. One of the most challenging matches of the year. I wouldn’t miss it.
AREA 6 MULTIGUN
Devil Dog Arms has signed on as the main match sponsor. Match is filling nicely. 3 Gun is gaining in popularity like crazy. Get on the train!! We are doing more and more 3 gun classes as well so we can train you up if need be.
LOCAL 3 GUN
Will be on for this month. It is the week prior to the A6MG match. I’ve had some folks ask if we’ll be doing it or not. So just to clarify, the match is ON.

Central Florida Section News

SLOT SERIES UPDATE FOR CENTRAL FLORIDA SECTION
We had our annual presidents meeting for the Central Florida Section of USPSA during the weekend of the State Match. The section had previously decided not to have our slot series this year as USPSA said they weren’t issuing slots for Nationals and were changing the way they did things. Well they changed their minds and decided they are going to do slots……and another last minute decision that landed the USPSA Nationals here at Universal Shooting Academy and all the sudden we needed a way to distribute the slots as fairly as possible. So we decided to jam a slot series in in the next few months.
Each club will host a slot series match between now and the end of May. You may attend as many as you like, the best 4 finishes will be totaled for your score. Score is your percentage. The Area 6 Pistol Championship will count as well and it will count double!! So if you achieve a 60% finish your score will be 120 for that match.
More information on the slot series can be provided from your club president and the section coordinator.
The important part is you must declare with your club president your desire to enter the series. You must declare by the end of February for this series.
We will get the schedule out in various places asap. The full schedule will be on USA’s website, facebook, A6 website, and other club websites as well.
Polk County Practical Shooters will hold the first one at our February match. February 8.
The slot series for the 2016 National Championship will be the last half of this year. We will have more information about this series towards the summer. We will have one match count double….probably The Monster Match but that’s TBD. For this series you must inform the Match Director of the first slot series match you attend that you are declaring.
Slots for the 2016 Single Stack Nationals will use the 2015 Factory Gun match as has been the case in recent years.

USPSA NATIONALS TO BE HOSTED AT UNIVERSAL SHOOTING ACADEMY
I am pleased to announce the Open/L-10/Limited National Championships will be held at USA this year AND 2016. This year the match will be the first full week in October. There will be much more info coming on this in the future.
USPSA
Our normal local match is on schedule for February 8. It will be a special classifier match. At least 4, maybe 5 or 6 classifiers along with 1 or 2 field courses. Maybe we’ll reshoot one or two of the FL State stages.

Fee: $25 ($5 increase for the extra classifier fees)
We will have practice available after the match for an additional $10
USADPL
Our first Universal Shooting Academy Defensive Pistol League match will be February 7, the day before our normal USPSA match. I will have the basic rule book (3 pages) on the website this week along with some additional information. For this first match I will limit it to under 50 rounds. Maybe we’ll allow shooting it twice for those that want to shoot more. More info to come on this.
FL OPEN
Registration is open and filling fast. 11 stages of awesomeness.
3 GUN
TIME CHANGE ON 3 GUN MATCH. Normal 3 gun match this coming Saturday. 100 rifle, 100 pistol, 50 bird, 5 slug will do ya as usual. I’m going to change the time to match our other local matches. I had originally made it a little later on request from some dudes traveling a little farther. However they never come so I’m changing it.

I didn’t get much feed back on the 3 Gun Nation conversation on the previous email. So we are holding fast with what we got at the moment, maybe we can chat about it during the match a little.
A6MG match is open for registration on MatchSignUp. Prize table is already shaping up to be pretty nice. Better than last year for sure.
We had a great turnout and great match this weekend at FL State! Thanks to all involved for making it a huge success. We’ll have it here again next year.

USPSA Nationals to come to USA

We are happy to announce that the 2015 AND 2016 U.S. Practical Shooting Assn. (USPSA) Limited / Open L-10 National Championships will be held at Universal Shooting Academy. I have been in talks with the USPSA President for a while now and the contract was officially finalized and signed today.

There will be much more information to come in the near future and I assure the information flow will be similar to a fire hydrant from my social media outlets. USPSA is fully in charge of producing the match but running matches is our business and I will do my best to keep the masses up to date to ensure your Nationals experience is top notch.

We will be using the tablet electronic scoring. So registration may take a bit longer as I figure out what the heck I’m doing. It worked well for the pistol match last week and scores were done quick.
A63G registration will open the first week of January
Charity Match
Huge thank you for the great turn out last week at our charity match. I haven’t done the final final accounting yet but it will be over $1000 to EACH organization. Much more than we were able to give last year. I will be writing the checks next week and will let you know the exact amount. Thanks a ton!!!
USADPL
I plan to figure the day of the month and a loose rule set for the USA Defensive Pistol League over the holiday break. I have received a lot of great input from you guys. Keep it coming if you have any thoughts. I’m excited for this new venture. For those of you defensive minded and/or who may carry for defense I think this will be right up your alley.
